JODI LEE BALSTER
My name is Jodi Balster. I am a current fourth year student on fast track at Woodbury University, interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree in architecture and a future employment as an architect without borders. I would love the opportunity to become an intern at DLR Group
My primary interest in architecture is to be able to improve the quality of living whether it is at a local or global scale. I want to inspire change in a community that promotes safety and wellbeing. I’ve begun my study learning different architecture styles and global issues, such as poverty, educational rights, and sustainable environmental techniques. In past years, I spent several months as an intern at the Santa Barbara Art Museum, studying under Patrick Melroy. There, we focused on creating community projects and public awareness of invisible talent especially those among the homeless population. I most recently have been studying under Linda Taalman to develop a Metro Division Station Bus lot in the Skid Row area of Los Angeles into a multi-use housing complex for the homeless population. These projects have aided greatly in my passion for humanitarian work to improve a community’s lifestyle and the connections among its members.
In addition to these projects, I have also been greatly involved in the community through intensive volunteer work. I have dedicated my time at various animal and wildlife care networks nursing injured animal back to health. I also am a volunteer artist in the local community and the chapter president of the AIAS chapter at Woodbury University. These humanitarian acts have greatly influenced my passion for creating connections among communities and improving its wellbeing.
I have previously attended Santa Barbara City College for six years during junior high and high school and recently graduated with three degrees, honors, and a strong GPA from Cuesta College. I have a strong background in mathematics, art, and music along with advance knowledge in Revit, Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
